Terms of service

The agreement between you and Chartshot when you use the API or the website.

Last updated 25 Oct 2026

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Chartshot ("we"). They cover the Chartshot API, the website at chartshot.dev, the dashboard and the MCP server. The JavaScript SDK on npm has its own MIT licence.

You accept these terms when you create an account or use the API. If you sign up for a company, you confirm you may accept them for it, and "you" means the company.

Chartshot is made for businesses and developers. If you use it as a consumer, the rights consumer law gives you still apply, and nothing in these terms takes them away.

Your account

Give us an email address you read, since that's where we send sign-in links, usage warnings and notices about these terms.

Keep your secret keys secret. You're responsible for what's done with your keys. If a key leaks, roll it in the dashboard, which stops the old secret and the URLs signed with it.

Using Chartshot

While you follow these terms, you may use Chartshot to draw chart images and put them anywhere: emails, Slack, web pages, documents, link previews and your own product.

Chart URLs without a key are free for anyone to use, up to 60 charts a minute from each IP address or network. Their images, and images on the Free plan, carry a small chartshot.dev badge. Don't crop, cover or edit out the badge; paid plans draw without it.

Acceptable use

Don't use Chartshot to:

  • break the law, or put content in charts that's unlawful, defamatory, or infringes someone else's rights
  • deceive people, such as with charts made for phishing or fraud
  • get around rate limits, plan limits or the badge, for example by spreading requests over many accounts or IP addresses
  • probe, attack or overload the service, or try to reach data that isn't yours

If you find a security problem, tell us at support@chartshot.dev and give us a fair chance to fix it before you make it public. We won't act against good-faith research that follows this.

We may block requests, suspend a key or suspend an account that breaks these rules. We'll tell you why, unless the law or the security of the service stops us.

Your content

The specs, data, themes and chart images you create are yours. You let us process them only to run Chartshot for you: to draw, store, cache and serve your charts. We don't use your chart data for anything else, and we don't use it to train AI models.

You're responsible for having the right to use the data you send. If you use Chartshot for a business and someone makes a claim against us because of content you sent through Chartshot, you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.

Plans and payment

The pricing table shows each plan's price and limits. Prices are listed in US dollars. Link may charge you in your local currency at its exchange rate, plus tax where it applies.

Paid plans are sold through Link, Stripe's merchant of record. Link takes the payment, charges and pays any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipts and invoices. Your bank statement shows the charge as LINK.COM followed by our name. Link's own terms apply to the payment.

A plan renews each month or year until you cancel it. You can cancel any time from the Billing page in the dashboard; your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for, then your account moves to Free. An upgrade starts straight away and a downgrade at the next renewal; Stripe shows what you'll pay before you confirm.

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and your plan carries on meanwhile. If it still fails, your account moves to Free.

We'll email you at least 30 days before a price change, which applies from your next renewal after that.

Usage limits

Each plan includes a number of charts a month, counted in UTC calendar months. Only charts the API sends count; images Cloudflare serves from its cache are free. We email you at 80% and 100% of your limit. Past 110% of it, the API stops drawing charts until the next month starts or you upgrade, and chart URLs show a "limit reached" image. We never charge for going over.

Refunds

If Chartshot isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of your first payment for a plan and we'll refund it in full. After that, payments aren't refunded for part of a period, except where the law requires or we've broken these terms. Link may also refund payments under its own rules.

Free use

The Free plan and chart URLs without a key cost nothing. We may change their limits, and we'll give 30 days' notice on this page before we reduce them.

Changes to the service

We keep improving Chartshot, so features and the look of charts change over time. A new renderer version can draw the same spec slightly differently. If we remove a feature of a paid plan, we'll tell you 30 days before, and if you cancel because of it, we'll refund the unused part of your period.

Stored charts

A stored chart is kept for as long as your plan kept charts when you stored it (90 days on Pro, 365 on Team and 365 on Business), then deleted. Keep your own copy of any spec you'll need again.

Ending the agreement

You can close your account at any time from Settings in the dashboard. Closing ends any paid plan straight away, without a refund for the rest of its period.

We may close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or with 30 days' notice for any other reason, in which case we'll refund the unused part of a paid period. When an account closes, its keys stop working and we delete its data as the privacy policy describes.

Warranty

We work hard to keep Chartshot fast, correct and available, but we provide it "as is". As far as the law allows, we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or suit a particular purpose.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.

Otherwise, neither of us is liable to the other for lost profits, revenue, data or business, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the greater of what you paid for Chartshot in those 12 months and US$100.

Privacy

The privacy policy explains how we handle your account data. The data processing agreement covers personal data in the charts you send, and forms part of these terms.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms, we update them here with a new date. For changes that matter to you, we email account holders 30 days before they take effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then and we'll refund the unused part of a paid period.

General

The laws of England and Wales govern these terms, and the courts of England and Wales decide any dispute, unless consumer law gives you the right to go to your own courts.

We send notices to your account's email address; send yours to support@chartshot.dev. You may not transfer this agreement without our agreement; we may transfer it to whoever takes over Chartshot. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term straight away doesn't mean we give up the right to. Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.

These terms, with the privacy policy and the data processing agreement, are the whole agreement between us about Chartshot.
